  43. * This product release contains both 16-bit and 32-bit versions of Stable
  44. Technical Graphs; named STABLE.EXE and STABLE32.EXE respectively.
  45. STABLE.EXE should run under all versions of Windows successfully.
  46. STABLE32.EXE is intended for Windows 95 and NT only.
  47.  
  48. * If you are having problems running the 32-bit version of Stable, please
  49. read the "Installation" section below. The problem may be related to
  50. missing DLL's of which we have a possible solution.
  51.  
  52. * For the most part, the STABLE.INI file is interchangeable between both
  53. 16/32-bit versions - with the exception of graph attachments. Attachments
  54. created using one version of Stable will not be recognized by the other
  55. version. Additionally, any attachments saved with one version deletes all
  56. attachments saved by the other.
  57.  
  58. * If you are upgrading from a previous version of Stable, the 16-bit version
  59. of Stable 2.3 will recognize your existing attachments. The 32-bit version
  60. will not.

  76. 3. System Requirements
  77. ----------------------
  78. Stable Technical Graphs is a Microsoft Windows application requiring
  79. the following minimal hardware configuration:
  80.  
  81.      o  An 80x86 personal computer running Microsoft Windows 3.1 and above,
  82.         Windows 95, or Windows NT.
  83.      o  4MB RAM.
  84.      o  VGA (640x480) or higher resolution.
  85.      o  System mouse or other pointing device.
  86.      o  System printer for producing printed charts (optional).
  87.  
  88. Two versions of Stable Technical Graphs are provided. STABLE.EXE is the
  89. 16-bit version of Stable for use on Windows 3.1+; STABLE32.EXE is the 32-bit
  90. version of Stable for use on Windows 95 and NT.

  93. 4. What Data Files Do I Use?
  94. ----------------------------
  95. Stable Technical Graphs is a financial analysis and charting application
  96. requiring you to have existing (or access to) financial historical data in
  97. one of the following supported formats:
  98.  
  99.      o  TeleChart 2000 (TC2000)
  100.      o  MetaStock
  101.      o  CSI (Commodity System Inc.)
  102.      o  Technical Tools
  103.      o  ASCII
  104.  
  105. ASCII is the most flexible, allowing you to use (worst case) any ASCII
  106. text editor to edit and maintain your data files manually.  Most spreadsheets
  107. can also export or save data in this format if you choose to maintain your
  108. financial data files in this manner.
  109.

  114. We have provided several financial ASCII data files that you can use to
  115. evaluate and run Stable Technical Graphs.  To access these files, perform
  116. the following steps:
  117.  
  118.     1.  Select File/Open Chart... from the application menu.
  119.     2.  In the Open Chart dialog, select "ASCII" as the import file
  120.         type and navigate to the directory you installed Stable Technical
  121.         Graphs.  The File Name list should display the following financial
  122.         data files:
  123.  
  124.            AAPL.CSV        Apple Computer, Inc.
  125.            HRB.CSV         H&R Block
  126.            DJ30.CSV        Dow Jones 30 Industrials
  127.  
  128.     3.  Select one of the sample files and click the OK button.
  129.  
  130.         See the online help for further details about the ASCII file format
  131.         supported by Stable.

  134. 5. Installation
  135. ---------------
  136. The evaluation version of Stable Technical Graphs is normally provided in
  137. compressed format (.ZIP, .ARC, etc.)
  138.  
  139.      1. The simplest form of installation is to copy the compressed
  140.         file to a single directory (i.e. \STABLE).  If you have a previous
  141.         version of Stable Technical Graphs on your hard drive, and you want
  142.         to retain it, create a different directory (i.e., \STAB230).  The
  143.         data files that you will be using with this product (and provided
  144.         by you) can reside in any directory you choose.
  145.  
  146.      2. Decompress the Stable file using the appropriate decompression
  147.         program (PKUNZIP.EXE for .ZIP file, PKXARC.EXE for .ARC, etc.)
  148.         All distribution files should remain in the same directory.
  149.  
  150.      3. Execute STABLE.EXE or STABLE32.EXE from Windows. STABLE.EXE is
  151.         the 16-bit version of Stable Technical Graphs for use on all
  152.         versions of Windows. STABLE32.EXE is the 32-bit version of Stable
  153.         for use on Windows 95 and NT only.

  159.         If the 32-bit version of Stable (STABLE32.EXE) fails to run under
  160.         Windows 95 or NT, it is likely that a support DLL named CTL3D32.DLL
  161.         does not exist on your system.
  162.  
  163.         WINDOWS 95 USERS: If the file CTL3D32.DLL does not exist in your
  164.                           Windows 95 \SYSTEM directory, copy the supplied
  165.                           file CTL3D95.DLL to your \SYSTEM directory and
  166.                           rename it to CTL3D32.DLL.
  167.  
  168.         WINDOWS NT USERS: If the file CTL3D32.DLL does not exist in your
  169.                           Windows NT \SYSTEM32 directory, copy the supplied
  170.                           file CTL3DNT.DLL to your \SYSTEM32 directory and
  171.                           rename it to CTL3D32.DLL.
  172.  
  173. To remove Stable Technical Graphs from your computer, simply delete the
  174. directory in which you installed Stable. No other files are affected.
  175.

  177. 6. Version 2.3 Description
  178. ---------------------------
  179. Stable Technical Graphs 2.3 is a minor upgrade. This upgrade provides
  180. the following new features and changes:
  181.  
  182.      o  Intra-day chart support has been included in the product. Intra-day
  183.         data includes a time field within the data.
  184.      o  ASCII file support now includes intra-day through the addition of
  185.         the field identifier 'T' (See "Supported File Formats" in the
  186.         online help or the chapter "Data Files" in the manual).
  187.      o  Stable now recognizes MetaStock intra-day format defined within
  188.         7-field records. The following describes the field order for
  189.         both daily and intra-day files recognized by Stable:
  190.

  201.      o  Two new indicators have been added; Williams %R and Force Index.
  202.         See the online help "List of Technical Indicators" for brief
  203.         descriptions of all indicators.
  204.      o  Export ASCII data now includes Time field support.
  205.      o  All Group selection dialogs now sort the list by group name.
  206.      o  Manual graph labeling is now fully implemented as it relates to
  207.         horizontal divisions in a graph. If "Force Automatic Graph Labeling"
  208.         is on (see Options/Chart....), all graphs are automatically labeled
  209.         by Stable. If this option is off, all graphs are automatically
  210.         labeled only if the graph has been assigned a value of zero (0)
  211.         in the "Horizontal Divisions" field (see Graph/Parameters...).
  212.      o  Default ASCII file format has been expanded to include 8 and 9 field
  213.         formats (see Options/File Import...).
  214.      o  Functionality has been added allowing charts to be copied between
  215.         all existing groups (see File/Copy Chart to Group...). Note that
  216.         the F2 key has been assigned to this function.
  217.      o  Net change has been added to the title display on all price graphs.
  218.      o  Interactive attachment support has been enhanced for intra-day charts.
  219.      o  The following accelerator key changes have been made to standardize
  220.         between applications:
  221.  
  222.            Ctrl+P          Print
  223.            Ctrl+Shift+P    Print all charts in group
  224.            Ctrl+T          Parameters...
  225.  
  226.      o  Graph attachments are not portable between the 16 and 32-bit versions
  227.         of the product.
  228.      o  General bug fixes.

  231. 7. Program Tips and Notes
  232. -------------------------
  233.      o  If you regularly use a large number of charts, it is best to store
  234.         your charts among several different groups instead of a single
  235.         group. Using a large number of charts at once can quickly use up
  236.         your system memory and resources - producing unwanted memory errors
  237.         to occur in some situations.
  238.     
  239.      o  If you find memory errors occurring on your printer when you attempt
  240.         to print your charts (particularly with laser printers), lower the
  241.         quality of the output by reducing the dots per inch setting or
  242.         selecting medium quality output.
  243.  
  244.      o  The Relative Strength indicator must always be based on a chart
  245.         contained within the group.  However, you may not want that
  246.         particular chart displayed along with the other charts in the group.
  247.         Try minimizing the chart so that the window is displayed as an icon
  248.         at the bottom of the program desktop area.
  249.  
  250.         Also, do not include a Relative Strength graph in any chart that is
  251.         itself being used as a Relative Strength reference.

  254. 8. Additional Information

  256.      o  All documentation files supplied with this product can be printed
  257.         by simply outputting the file contents to your system printer.
  258.         Documentation files include files with the .TXT extension.

  260.      o  Please verify that you have all the files for this distribution by
  261.         checking the PACKING.LST file.

  263.      o  Refer to the LICENSE.TXT file for complete information on product
